ECEN Representatives Make A Difference

ECEN Reps have reported successes in influencing local decisions.

The Health and Well Being Board reps have had particular success in relation to the Continuing Care Criteria, that is, the criteria by which it is decided if someone qualifies for free continuing care from the NHS.  Their influences included:

  • Stopping the May 2003 criteria going through the Health and Well Being Board (then calld the Health and Social Care Board) without debate
  • Ensuring that all cases assessed under the exisiting criteria will be reviewed when the new criteria is used
  • Ensuring that the voluntary and community sector was consulted on the new criteria
  • Being the only voluntary and community sector reps to be invited to meet with the North Central London Strategic Health Authoroty.

The Housing and Environment Specialist Delivery Group reps successfully pressed for the mainstreaming of the NRF Streethawks programme.  This programme encourages local residents, businesses and community groups to actively participate in the management of their local street level environment.

In addition, ECEN reps on the Enfield Crime Reduction Implementation Team (ECRIT) and the Health Impovement Partnership (HIP) played a key role in securing funding for the voluntary and community sector through the Local Area Agreement (LAA).

This list is not exhaustive.  ECEN reps have contributed a good deal more towards making Enfield a better place to live than is reported here.  Well done to all the reps who have had a real influence on decision making at local level.

Do you have a success story to tell about how the ECEN has had an impact?  If so, contact ecen@ecen.org.uk or use the Discussion Forum.
